“The Loss to Boiling Springs very dejecting but it was also beneficial. It allowed us to realize we have to start and finish every game at a high level. Also it showed us that when you have a chance to capitalize on another teams mistakes it is essential that you do so. I feel the coaches handled it well not allowing us to get down on ourselves and make it clear that there was still improvements to be made in order to become a championship team.”
That opening statement from Spartanburg Wide Receiver Josh Johnson was about as real as real can get. It was Illmatic…which means about as real as it gets ill. When it gets ill,you know it gets real..You understand.
Illmatic is the debut studio album by American rapper Nas, released on April 19, 1994, by Columbia Records. After signing with the label with the help of MC Serch, Nas recorded the album in 1992–1993 at Chung King Studios, D&D Recording, Battery Studios, and Unique Recording Studios in New York City. Its production was handled by DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, L.E.S. and Nas himself. Styled as a hardcore hip hop album, Illmaticfeatures multi-syllabic internal rhymes and inner-city narratives based on Nas’s experiences in Queensbridge, New York
When I asked Josh about his recent Limestone offer he said,”As far as college I have one offer from limestone college but I am receiving interest from Brown university, Lehigh University, and Butler University. He added,”If I do go on to play college football, that would be a dream of mine. I would also plan to major in pre-med/ pre-pharmacy.”
Josh Johnson has 21 catches for 383 yards and 3 TDs on the season. Those numbers may not jump off the screen to you but he draws a lot of attention from opposing defenses.
Spartanburg WR Coach and Assistant OC Nate Harris said of Johnson,”Josh is the ultimate TEAM MATE! Never complains, and always the first one to do things!! Great Family background, and just the an AWESOME KID To have around. Football talent, he’s the Larry Fitzgerald kind! Just does everything the right way.”
Josh has even won his parents over,”He is a very polite and personable. He volunteers with a group from his school. He always tries to give back when he can. Josh loves video games, music and wants to be successful in life”. Vincent his father added,” He works hard in the classroom and on the field. He loves hanging out with family and friends.” …..Illmatic
Josh spoke to me about stwo more things I thought to be absolutely Illmatic…
“After we finish pregame warm ups and run through the banner. I run over to Coach Nate and hug him and tell him that “I love him.” I then move to the very end, up the sideline and say a prayer to my lord Jesus Christ thanking him for all he has done and is preparing to do.”
